Cheese Tasting (Sept 3): Village Cheeseworks

Cheese Tasting (Sept 3): Village Cheeseworks

September 3, 2026Monica Liau

Starting at 5pm, we will showcase two amazing cheeses from Village Cheeseworks, Upperville, Virginia.

Village Cheeseworks was built to revive a proud local tradition of dairy craftsmanship and reconnect people to the source of their food. Each cheese is named after nearby "villages" once known for their deep roots in dairy, and their milk comes from a small farm that has been milking cows for more than 100 years.

Their cheeses reflect their commitment to the history, community and beautiful craftmanship of the region. Come and taste these two cheeses, learn more and go home with a story.

5pm until supplies run out!

We will be tasting out two different cheeses.

Introducing: Zulla

Zulla is a small-batch, washed-rind cheese inspired by the great traditions of French Muenster and Italian Taleggio. Its signature golden, light-orange rind gives off a gentle earthy aroma—deep and rustic yet wonderfully approachable. Inside, Zulla reveals a creamy, smooth texture.

Perfect on its own or as the centerpiece of a cheese board, Zulla also shines in pairings. Its savory character and subtle tang make it a natural match for sparkling wines, farmhouse ales and cured meats.

Tasting Notes:

  • Creamy, supple paste with a golden washed rind

  • Earthy aroma balanced by a gentle, approachable flavor

  • Savory, slightly tangy finish that pairs beautifully with bubbles and charcuterie

Introducing: Atoka

Atoka is a soft-ripened, hand-formed cheese inspired by the classic styles of traditional goat cheeses — yet made entirely with rich, local cow’s milk. This small-batch, mini-truckle showcases a beautifully patterned rind and a texture that’s as dynamic as its flavor: soft and creamy on the outside, giving way to a delicate, crumbly center.

Atoka’s versatility makes it as at home on a cheese board as it is crumbled into salads, spread over warm bread with fig or blackcurrant preserves, or folded into pastas and baked dishes.

Tasting Notes:

  • Buttery, creamy, and delicately tangy

  • Notes of crisp green apple and cultured cream

  • Textural contrast of soft exterior and crumbly core
